About this tool
HEX and RGB describe screen colours as red, green and blue amounts; HSL (hue, saturation, lightness) is easier for making lighter or darker shades; CMYK is used for printing. CMYK values here are a simple mathematical conversion — professional printers use colour profiles, so ask your press for exact values for brand printing.
The contrast checker uses the WCAG 2 formula. Normal body text needs at least 4.5:1 (level AA) and large text 3:1; AAA asks for 7:1. Good contrast helps everyone read on phones in sunlight, not only people with low vision.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert HEX to RGB?
Type the HEX code (like #1F6FEB) and read the RGB row: rgb(31, 111, 235). Each pair of hex digits is one channel from 0 to 255.
What contrast ratio do I need?
WCAG AA requires 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text (about 24px, or 18.7px bold). AAA requires 7:1 and 4.5:1.
Are the CMYK values exact for printing?
They’re a standard approximation without a colour profile. Printed colours can vary, so confirm with your printer for brand-critical work.
