How to use the Barcode Generator (Code 128)

  2. Adjust bar width and height if needed.
  3. Download PNG or SVG, then test it with a scanner or phone app before printing many labels.

About this tool

Code 128 is the most widely used general-purpose barcode: it can hold letters, digits and symbols, and packs long numbers compactly by encoding two digits per symbol. Courier labels, warehouse shelves, library books and internal product SKUs commonly use it, and every standard barcode scanner and phone scanner app reads it.

Note that retail products sold in shops usually need an EAN-13 barcode with a number officially issued by GS1 India — you can’t make up a valid retail barcode number. Use Code 128 for your own inventory, labels and documents. For printing, download the SVG (it stays sharp at any size) and keep the white margin on both sides.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this barcode on products in shops?

Supermarkets and online marketplaces usually require GS1-registered EAN-13 / UPC barcodes. Use these Code 128 barcodes for internal inventory, shipping and labels.

Which characters can a Code 128 barcode hold?

All standard English keyboard characters — letters, digits, spaces and symbols (ASCII 32–126). Hindi and emoji aren’t supported by the barcode standard.

Why won’t my barcode scan?

Print it larger (bar width 2–3 px or more), keep the white quiet zone on both sides, use black on white, and avoid very long text.

Is there a watermark or limit?

No watermark and no limit. Barcodes are generated in your browser.
